State-owned electricity company PLN has ensured that there would be no power shortage next year thanks to the operation of several new power plants in several parts of the country.

"Hopefully, there will be no power shortage any more next year. A number of new power plants will operate next year, adding the national power supply by between seven and 10 percent," PLN's director for power generation and primary energy Ali Herman Ibrahim was quoted as saying by Investor Daily on Wednesday.

According to him, the additional power supply for the Java and Bali power transmission network will come from several new power plants including steam power plant PLTU Cilacap I which will begin operation in January with a capacity of 300 MW and from its second unit which will begin its commercial operation in June with the same capacity.

In addition to PLTU Cilacap, there are also several other new power plants in Java to operate next year including the combined cycle power plant PLTGU Cilegon which will operate in April with a capacity of about 740 MW.

"Steam power plant PLTU Tanjung Jati B I (660 MW) will operate in August while its second unit (600 MW) to operate in November," he added.

The power transmission system in Sumatra will also receive additional supply from several new power plants, including from hydro power plants PLTA Musi (110 MW), PLTA Ranum (82 MW), PLTA Bili Bili (20 MW) and combined cycle power plant PLTGU Palembang Timur (50 MW) and PLTGU Pekan Baru (40 MW).

"All the power plants will begin their commercial operation next year," he said. (*)
