PLN expands transformer capacity in E. Java, installs new power lines

State-owned electricity company PT PLN has expanded the capacity of four transformers in East Java, and is developing new power lines in a bid to strengthen power supply in the province.

PLN said in a statement Tuesday that the four transformers included the 150/20 kV New Wlingi, New Pacitan and New Lamongan whose capacity has each been uprated to 60 MVA from 30 MVA, and the Kebun Agung 150/70 kV whose capacity was expanded to 100 MVA from 50 MVA.

The uprated transformers were inaugurated on Tuesday. Business Director for East Java Region at PLN, Amin Subekti said that the capacity uprating of the transformers will help increase power supply in the province and improve services to customers.

PLN is also developing a 74-km elevated power lines linking Kediri-New Tulungagung and New Wlingi. Of the required 235 towers, 122 have been installed, while land acquisition for the remaining towers is still in progress.

Peak load in East Java currently stands at 5,200 MW, with installed power capacity of 7,134 MW, and transmission network of 7,923 kms.
