The government expects the two power interconnection projects PT PLN plans to build, West Kalimantan-Serawak and Sumatra-Peninsular Malaysia, to start operation by 2015 and 2017 respectively.
The state owned utility company can now go ahead with the two projects, following the enactment in early April of Government Regulation (GR) No.42/2012 on inter-state electricity sales, said Djarman, Director General of Electricity at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
?The government has introduced GR No.42/2012, which provides PLN with a legal basis to purchase/sell electricity from/to neighboring countries,? Djarman said on Friday.
The projects are part of Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity, which basically is an electricity interconnection program to be implemented within member countries.
For the two projects, Indonesia (cq PLN) will be working on the project on the West Kalimantan and Sumatra sides, while Malaysia will be handling the project on its side of the borders.
