Tuesday, December 22 2015 - 01:33 AM WIB

Electricity sales in January-November 2015 period only grew by 2.09 percent from the same 11-month period of 2014, and is much lower than the 9 percent target for the full-year, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The paper quoted data from state-owned electricity firm PLN that electricity sales in the first 11 months of 2015 stood at only 183.09 terawatt h our (TWh), compared to 179.34 TWh in the corresponding period of 2014.

PLN Head of Commercial Division Benny Marbun said that the slowing economic growth in the country has affected electricity consumption. He estimated that sales growth for the full-year would be less than 9 percent.

He added that the tariff discount provided for industrial consumers has yet to provide significant effect on power consumption. (*)
