PLN inaugurates micro hydro, solar plants in NTT

State-owned electricity company PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) inaugurated earlier this week two micro hydro power plants and one solar power plant on Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. A 1x450 kilo Watt peak (kWp) solar power plant in the provincial capital of Kupang was also inaugurated
The new plants in Sumba, which include the 1x40 kW Kemanggih micro hydro power plant, the 2x800 kW Lapopu plant, and the 1x150 kWp solar plant, were inaugurated by Vickner Sinaga, PLN Director of Operation overseeing the eastern part of Indonesia.
The new power plants form part of PLN?s efforts to increase the supply of electricity produced from new and renewable sources of energy in the island, which now account for 55 percent of the supply.
The target is for the entire electricity supply in Sumba, which comprises of four regencies, to entirely come from new and renewable sources, turning Sumba as an iconic island.
