PLN inaugurates new substations

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN inaugurated on Tuesday three extra high voltage substations that would help increase power supply reliability in the western part of Java and Lampung.

PLN Director of Business for western part of Java and Lampung regions Murtaqi Syamsudin led the ceremony, held at the Millenium Industrial Zone in Tangerang, Banten, to inaugurate the new sub stations including 500 kV Balaraja substation in Lampung, 150 kV Millenium substation, 150 kV gas insulated substation (GIS) in Bintaro, Banten, and a 4.7 km 150 kV underground cable, also in Bintaro.

Murtaqui said that the new substations will help increase power supply in the western part of Jakarta and Lampung.

He said that this year, PLN plans to deveop 53 new extra high voltage substations amid rising power demand both from industries and households.

Specifically in Jakarta, as land acquisition has become tough obstacle, PLN will develop 60 km of underground cables.
