PLN increases electricity supply in South Sulawesi

State owned electricity company PLN in South Sulawesi will received additional power supply of about 85 megawatt this year from two new power plants in the province to meet the surge in the power demand, Investor Daily reported on Monday.

The general manager of PLN's branch in South Sulawesi, Rachmadi Danoeatmadja, said in Jakarta on Sunday that about 65 MW of the additional supply had started to flow from PT Energi Equity Sengkang's steam power plant which begun commercial operation in October.

He said that PLN in the province was also expected to receive additional power supply of about 20 MW from Bili Bili hydropower plant, which was expected to begin operation in the first semester of this year.

At present, the electricity in the province is being supplied by the 62 MW diesel power plant in Suppa, Pinrang; the 120 MW hydropower plant in Tello, Makassar; the 126 MW hydropower plant in Bakaru (Pinrang); and the 135 MW combined cycle power plant in Sengkang Wajo. (*)
