State electricity company PLN will go ahead with its plan of building 600-megawatt Muara Tawar gas power plant in West Java although it is aware that the project will incur losses, Koran Tempo daily reported Tuesday.

?The project is needed for the continuity of our service. We must go ahead with our plan,? the paper quoted PLN president director Eddie Widiono as saying Monday.

The Muara Tawar project had been planned to anticipate power shortage in 2004, Eddie said.

Eddie said the project would require investment of Rp4 trillion (US$=Rp8,880). (*)
