State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said on Wednesday it is currently in the process of installing two diesel power generators with combined capacity of 1,000 MW in Letung on Jemaja Island, Anambas Islands Regency, Riau Island Province.

PLN said in a statement that if everything goes well, the generators will start operation in early October of this year.

The generators will increase power supply in the island, a tourism site popular with its marine tourism and white sandy beach, in anticipation of rising demand including from the local tourism and fishing industries.

Power supply in Jemaja currently comes from an 800 kW diesel-fired power plant, PLN said.
