PLN may award LNG terminal EPC contracts in Oct

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN expects to announce the winners of the EPC (engineering procurement and construction) contracts for its proposed LNG receiving terminal and re-gasification facilities project in Bojonegara, Banten Province, in October.

PLN president Eddie Widiono said on Thursday that PLN had requested proposal from selected companies for the LNG terminal project. ?We want to speed up the commencement of project construction as early as possible,? Eddie added.

Another PLN official said earlier that PLN was scheduled to award the contracts by the end of this year.

PLN has selected 18 companies to submit tender proposals for the EPC contracts of the LNG receiving terminal.

The companies include US-based Chicago Bridge and Iron, Japanese firms Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, Kawasaki Heavy Industry-Marubeni Corp, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industry-Sumitomo Corp, and Sofregaz, SN Technigaz of France.

Eddie, however, said PLN had yet to decide whether it would form a joint venture for the terminal and determine the source(s) of the LNG supply. (godang)
