Now that the legal umbrella for selling electricity overseas is in place, state owned utility firm PT PLN is studying the possibility of selling power it produces in Batam to Singapore, a company executive said.

?PLN is ready to showcase the implementation of this electricity export import scheme, now that we already have a regulation on it in place,? Director of Risk Management at PLN Murtaqi Syamsudin told petromindo.com on Friday.

Murtaqi said no discussions as yet with Singapore on this subject, but if the country is willing, he said: ?we are ready,?

In early April, the government issued a new regulation, GR No. 42/2012, to allow export and import of electricity from or to neighboring countries to support a power interconnection program to be implemented within members of ASEAN.

Under this program, more than a dozens of power interconnection projects will be built among member countries.
