State-owned oil and gas company PLN may be able to begin using coal bed methane (CBM) gas for the company?s power plants in 2011 to cope with the shortage of the natural gas supply, Kompas.com reported.
Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, the chairman of the Presidential Unit for the Management of Programs (UKP3), said in Jakarta on Friday that the government would prepare necessary regulations for the use of methane gas for power plants in the two years' time.
?All about CBM is clear now. We can use the methane gas in 2011. Now, all the necessary regulations for that purpose are being prepared,? he said following a limited Cabinet meeting on the 10,000 MW power plant development program.
A number of companies have received the government licenses to develop CBM, which is a form of natural gas extracted from coal beds. (*)
