State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is moving to quickly complete the Sumatra transmission networks projects, with the aim that about a third of the planned project can be completed within the next two months, Kontan reported on Wednesday.
The paper quoted Amir Rosidin, PLN Business Director for Sumatra Region, as saying that about 600 circuit kilometers of transmission lines are expected to be completed by August of this year. This represents about a third of the planned 1,800 km of transmission lines linking Lampung to Aceh provinces.
He said that the Sumatra transmission line project, which is funded by a US$1.1 billion loan from the World Bank and Asian Development, is targeted to be completed in 2019, to transmit excess power from the southern part of the island to the northern part. (*)
