State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that its 500 MW PLTMG Muara Karang gas engine power plant (extension), and 1,000 MW PLTMG Tanjung Priok (extension) in Jakarta are expected to start commercial operation next year.
This was said by Haryanto WS, PLN Director for Western Part of Java Region, on Tuesday. He said that the two power plants will increase the excess power reserves in the Java-Bali system, which currently stands at 31 percent of the total installed capacity of 30,000 MW.
He added that this will in turn help accelerate investment activities in the region and the country?s economic growth.
The two power plants will receive gas supply from the West Java floating storage and regasification units (FSRU), operated by PT Nusantara Regas, which has been utilizing the excess capacity of gas pipeline owned PT PHE ONWJ in transmitting gas to the existing Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok power plants, under a facility sharing agreement signed in 2013.
