State electricity firm PLN needs fresh fund of US$2 billion for building power plants using non-fuel oil, company president director Eddie Widiono said Monday as reported by Necara daily.
With $2 billion investment PLN could produce around 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity, Eddie told reporters after attending a meeting of economic ministers.
Eddie said using more coal, natural gas and other non-fuel oil sources of energy would significantly cut PLN?s operational costs.
He said earlier that his company had used an estimated Rp14.3 trillion (US$=Rp8,900) to buy coal for its plants from January to October of 2002, up from previous full year?s of Rp9.7 trillion. (*)
