State owned electricity company PLN needs at least two weeks to recover the power supply in the quake-hit Nias island and surrounding areas, Investor Daiy reported on Saturday.

PLN's commercial director Sunggu Anwar Aritonang said in Jakarta on Friday that most of the electricity networks in Nias island and the surrounding areas were seriously damaged following the devastating earthquake which hit the island early this week.

"We need at least two weeks to fully recover the electricity supply in the island," he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile Pertamina said that the state oil and gas company was able to provide fuel stocks including petroleum and kerosene for up to 23 days in Nias and the surrounding areas despite the damages in its fuel distribution facilities in the quake-hit areas.

The company said that it shipped the fuel by wooden ships from Sibolga to meet the shortage of the fuel in the areas, until the existing fuel distribution facilities could be fully operated.

According to the company, it will take at least three months to fully recover the damaged fuel facilities in the island. (*)
