State-owned electricity company PT PLN said that a fire incident Sunday morning at the PLTU Sumuradem coal-fired power plant in Indramayu, West Java, will not disrupt power supply in the province.

Iwan Supangkat Santosa, Director at PLN, told Petromindo.com late Sunday that while the operation of the 900 MW power plant has been temporarily halted, power supply has been replaced with electricity from the Interbus Transformer (IBT) Cibatu 1 and 2 System in Bekasi, West Java.

"We stopped the power plant?s operation for a while as there?s no coal supply due to the fire incident," Iwan said.

The fire incident started in the early hour of Sunday at the coal crushing facility near the stockpiles of the power plant complex. The fire was put off a few hours later.

"But the electricity supply to Cikarang, Karawang, and Jababeka were not disturbed, there are still enough electricity supply for West Java from IBT Cibatu," Iwan said, referring to key industrial areas in the province.

Iwan added that currently a team from PLN and Pembangkit Jawa Bali (PJB), the operator of the plant, are still checking the damage caused by the fire incident, but could not yet determine how long the repair will be completed.

The Sumuradem power plant consumes the coal with CV of 4200 kg/kcal, supplied from Sumatera and Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, PLN Corporate Secretary Adi Supriono told Petromindo.com that 10 people suffered burns from the incident and were rushed to the hospital.
