PLN obtains equity injection from government

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said it would use the Rp 5 trillion worth of government equity injection to help finance the construction of 10,000 MW power plant projects and transmission over the next five years, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.
The paper quoted PLN President Director Sofyan Basyir that the House of Representatives has recently approved the proposed government equity injection for the company.
The government plans to build a total of 35,000 MW power plants until 2019, of which PLN has been assigned to build 10,000 MW, that would require about US$22.5 million worth of investment.
Baasyir said that in addition to government equity injection, PLN would also seek loans to meet the huge investment requirement for power plant and transmission development. (*)
