State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has secured supply of 1.5 million kiloliters of marine fuel oil (MFO) to support the corporate program to replace high speed diesel (HSD) with MFO, Media Indonesia Daily reported on Thursday.

Murtaqi Syamsudin, PLN?s Director overseeing Java, Madura and Bali, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that PLN had got confirmation from state oil and gas firm Pertamina and PT Shell Indonesia on the MFO supplies.

PLN plans to replace one million kiloliters of HSD with MFO this year as part of efforts to save operating costs. The firm consumes 9.1 million kiloliters of HSD annually.

He said the HSD-to-MFO conversion program will be focused on the areas outside Java, where PLN operates many diesel power plants.

"It take about six months for a power plant to convert from HSD to MFO," he said. (*)
