PLN opens coal shipping tender for C. Java plant

PT. PLN Pembangkitan Tanjung Jati B, a unit of state electricity firm PLN will open pre-qualification tender to ship coal from Indonesian mines to Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant in Central Java.

The 2 x 660 MW power plant would consume 4 million tons of coal annually, with first shipment of coal for the plant is expected to be in September 2005.

The company said the duration of the shipping contract is yet to be finalized, but it was expected to be 15 years-contract.

The bid will be closed on August 26.

The company said one of the requirements to be considered as qualified bidders is that bidders must have record to carry at least 1 million tons per annum of domestic dry bulk commodities.

Tanjung Jati B is scheduled to start supplying power to Java electricity grid in 2006.

Tanjung Jati B is owned by PT. Central Java Power (CJP), in which Japan tradinghouse Sumitomo is controlling shareholder. CJP entered into a 20-year long-term lease with PLN, under which PLN will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the power plant during the lease period. (alex)
