PLN opens low-rank coal supply tender

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) called on Wednesday for bids to supply low-rank CV coal for its proposed power plants located in Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara .

The company said in a tender announcement that the coal supply contracts would have a duration of 5 years.

Tender participants may register themselves from May 14 to may 25, 2010. Tender document can be obtained at PLN?s head office, Building I, 5th Floor on Jl. Trunojoyo Blok M 1/135, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta from May 25 to June 01, 2010

The company said eligible suppliers are producing miners which have minimum mineable reserves of 20 million tons (MT), at least has produced 1 MT per annum.

The eligible suppliers are also not involved in a contract term with the same power plants.

When contacted by Petromindo.com on Wednesday, PLN's primary energy director Nur Pamudji said that the tender is being held to provide substitute in case the suppliers that had been appointed by the firm failed to realize their supply committment.

He refused to unveil the volume of the tender. "I will tell you next week," he said.

Last March, PLN picked five suppliers to supply a total of 2.7 million tons of coal per annum for 20 years to its power plants built under 10,000 MW crash program scheme and PLN would pay Rp 1.1 trillion (US$=Rp 9,100) annually for the coal supplies.

PLN estimated that it would need 31 MTPA of coal when all its power plants under the 10,000-MW crash program come onstream in 2010-11. The company has secured 28.5 MTPA of coal in the first and second phase tenders. (bernard)
