PLN operates mini gas power plant in Bawean

Tuesday, July 15 2014 - 12:51 AM WIB

State-owned electricity firm PLN said it has built a 3MW mini gas power plant (PLTMG) on Bawean Island, Gresik, East Java, replacing the old diesel-fired power plant.

PLN said in a statement Monday that two gas engines of the plant have been operated with combined capacity of 2MW, to be soon followed with the final third engine.

It added that gas for the power plant will be supplied from the Gresik CNG terminal.

PLN said it relies on CNG technology to build power plants in remote areas where there is no access to gas pipeline as the firm switches to cheaper gas to cut down dependency on costly diesel fuel.
