State-owned electricity firm PT PLN officially started on Tuesday operation of a third transformer unit called interbus transformer (or IBT) at the Cibinong extra high voltage substation (GITET) in West Java Province.
PLN said in a statement that the 500 kV GITET transformer is able to transfer as much as 500 MVA of power from 500 kV voltage to become 150 kV, which is then transmitted to increase reliability of electricity supply in Karawang and Bekasi, West Java.
PLN Business Director for central part of Java, Amir Rosidin said in the statement that the operation of the IBT unit 3 at the GITET Cibinong will help PLN reduce its electricity supply cost (or BPP). ?The saving potential of BPP from the operation of IBT unit 3 is Rp 3.5 trillion per year. This occurs because power supply from high cost power plant can be substituted with power supply from lower cost power plant of the 500 kV system,? he explained.
