PLN, Pertamina to jointly seek overseas LNG supply

Two state owned firms, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and PT Pertamina, will team up to seek LNG supply from overseas, according to a high ranking official at the state owned utility firm PLN.

Head of Oil and Gas Fuel Division Suryadi Mardjoeki told petromindo.com now that the government has allowed the importation of LNG, PLN would cooperate with Pertamina to secure the LNG supply for the state oil and gas firm?s Arun regassification project in Aceh.

?Potential suppliers (in overseas) are plenty. We have potential supplier from the US, Qatar and Brunei among others,? said Suryadi.

?For the Arun project, we are hoping to start soon as we need the gas for our power plants in Aceh,? he said, adding that PLN expects the price of regassified gas at around US$12 per mmbtu.

As reported earlier, Pertamina is seeking the LNG supply certainty for its Arun project to proceed as scheduled. Meanwhile, Evita said the government has allowed Pertamina to seek overseas supply for the Arun project so that it could be started this year.
