State electricity firm PLN is in talks with Malaysian state oil firm Petronas over the possibility to jointly build a combined-cycle power plant in West Java, PLN president said Tuesday.

?The talks is still ongoing, but we probably will build the power plant near PLN?s proposed LNG receiving terminal facilities in Cilegon, West Java,? said president Eddie Widiono.

Eddie did not provide further detail. Aside from Petronas, South Korean company Kepco is has also reportedly expressed interest to build power plant nearby the proposed LNG terminal.

Eddie said PLN had also invited Petronas to participate in LNG terminal development, including possibility as LNG supplier. PLN has been planning to build 1st phase terminal, which can receive and regasify up to 3 million tons of LNG per annum, which is seen to become operational in 2007/2008. (godang)
