State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to develop a 5 MW gas engine power plant in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, to help increase power supply in the region.

Amindin Ginting, a manager of PLN?s East Nusa Tenggara office, was quoted as saying that construction is expected to start next year as the company is still in the process of completing the acquisition of the required 10-hectare land.

He was speaking at a meeting last week with local regency and provincial government officials to discuss the required land for the planned project.

He said that the existing 4.9 MW diesel-fired power plant in Rote has a power capacity of 3.2 MW, while peak load in the region stands at 3.1 MW.

He said that PLN will develop another 5 MW gas engine power plant in 2019 in Rote, a top tourist destination in East Nusa Tenggara. (*)
