State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that a sub-station in Batang, Central Java, will be built to facilitate the distribution of electricity output from the planned PLTU Batang coal-fired power plant in the Central Java grid.

PLN said in a statement issued Thursday following the signing of financial closure for the 2x1,000 MW Batang power plant project, said that the 500 kV Batang sub-station with two inter bus transformers, will each have a capacity of 500 MVA.

The utility added that another 500 kV sub-station will be built in Ampel with similar capacity as in Batang, thus will provide total additional capacity of 2,000 MVA in Central Java.

The financial closure of the US$4.2 billion Batang coal-fired power plant project will pave the way for consortium PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia to start construction work in the hope that it could be completed in 2019 after years of lengthy delays due to primarily to land acquisition problem.
