PLN plans gas engine power plant in Natuna

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to build a 20 MW gas engine power plant (PLTMG) in Penarik area, Natuna Regency, Riau Islands Province, in 2019.
PLN Manager for Natuna Region, Dwi Ristiono was quoted as saying by local news portal batampos.co.id that the state company will soon make coordination with the local administration as the project will require land of around 5 hectares.
He said that once in operation, the new PLTMG will increase power supply in the area and help lure fresh investment as well accelerates economic development. No further details were provided about the planned project.
PLN earlier said that it was set to start at the end of this year operation of 23 small diesel-fired power plants with total capacity of 23,500 kW in frontier eight islands around Natuna Regency. (*)
