PLN plans LNG infrastructure for five power plants

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is planning to develop LNG infrastructure facilities such as LNG receiving terminal in five locations to facilitate gas supply for five gas engine power plants planned by the company.

Head of Gas and Fuel Oil Division at PLN, Chairanni Rachmatullah told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the tender documents are still being prepared.

Chairani said that the company has already secured LNG supply from BP for the five peaker power plants including 100 MW in Pontianak (West Kalimantan), 25 MW in Gunung Sitoli (Nias), 50 MW in Air Anyer, Bangka Island (Bangka Belitung), 25 MW in Suge, Belitung Island (Bangka Belitung), and 50 MW in West Nusa Tenggara.

Elsewhere, Chairani said that the company has also secured gas to be channeled via existing pipeline to three gas engine power plants whose construction is currently being completed. The three power plants include Paya Pasir, in Medan (North Sumatra) with capacity of 75 MW, Balai Pungug in Duri (Riau) with capacity of 75 MW, and Tarahan in Lampung with capacity of 100 MW. The Paya Pasir plant is set to soon start commissioning stage, she said.
