State-owned electricity firm PT PLN plans to develop new transmission lines linking a number of regencies in North Kalimantan and East Kalimantan to distribute up to 2,300 MW of electricity from power plants in the two provinces.

North Kalimantan Governor Irianto Lambrie said in a statement last week that the provincial administration has issued the required permits for the projects that are targeted to be completed at the end of 2018.

Irianto said, quoting information form PLN, that the state utility will develop a combined 618 elevated high voltage towers from Tanjung Redeb in neighboring East Kalimantan to Tide Pele in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan.

He appealed to the public to help PLN in completing the acquisition of the required land for the transmission line projects, that will facilitate the distribution of electricity from the Sungai Kayan hydro power plant and a number of gas engine power plants.

Irianto said that in 2019, PLN will continue to build new power lines in the province to reach Simenggaris in Nunukan Regency.
