State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to carry out rolling five-day power outage in Jakarta and the surrounding areas starting Monday as repair work at the company?s high voltage electricity tower in Sumedang, West Java, is still in process.

The tower was hit by landslide, causing power transmission from power plants located in eastern areas of the island to the western areas (Jakarta and West Jawa) decreased by about 750MW while repair work could only be expected to complete on April 5, the company said in a statement.

Bambang Dwiyanto, Corporate Communications Senior Manager at PLN, said that every customer has the potential to suffer one incident of a three-hour blackout during the particular period. ?We have made our best efforts so that each customer will only suffer one blackout incident during the period,? he said.

The limited electricity supply to the Jakarta and West Jawa areas is currently being maximized with supply from power plants located in the western areas of the Java island, such as by optimizing the operation of PLTU Indramayu, PLTU Lontar Tangerang and PLTU Priok.
