State electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) plans to build its third hydrogen refueling station in Muara Karang, Jakarta, a company executive said.

Ricky Andrian, Vice President of Business Development at PT PLN (Persero), said in a social media post that the facility would become the latest addition to the utility’s hydrogen infrastructure as it develops a domestic hydrogen ecosystem.

Indonesia’s first hydrogen refueling station was launched by PLN in Senayan, Jakarta, in February 2024 as part of a pilot program to introduce hydrogen fuel for vehicles.

The second station was developed by PLN’s generation subsidiary PLN Nusantara Power at its Merah Putih hydrogen facility in Rembang, Central Java, where hydrogen produced from renewable electricity is used for mobility, research and energy applications.

PLN has been expanding its green hydrogen initiatives by producing hydrogen at several power plants using renewable electricity sources such as geothermal, hydropower and solar energy.

The company has established more than 20 small-scale green hydrogen production units across Indonesia, supplying hydrogen for testing in transportation, industrial and energy applications.

Hydrogen is expected to play a role in Indonesia’s long-term decarbonization strategy as the country explores low-carbon fuels to support its energy transition.
