State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to build four gas-fired power plants, each with a capacity of 750 megawatt in Cilegon, Banten to meet the growing electricity demand in Java.
PLN's chief commissioner Alhilal Hamdi said in Jakarta Monday that the construction of the four gas-fired power plants would be part of the company's master plan in securing the expected sharp increase in the electricity demand in the future.
He said that the new power plants would be built near the location of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal which would be constructed in Cilegon, Banten.
"The construction of the four power plants will cost about $500 million or about Rp 4.5 trillion each," he said. He, however, said that the new power plants would be built only if there would be a surplus in the LNG supply from the planned LNG terminal. (*)
