PLN?s Eastern Indonesian Operation Director Vickner Sinaga said on Friday that the development of PLTB would be started with a survey of the right locations for the development in East Nusa Tenggara province.
During the last week of this month, he led a survey team, which included a team of expert from China to conduct surveys in three locations in NTT, namely Aeu?ut and Wini villages in Timor island, and another one in Waingapu in Sumba island.
Vickner hopes that development of wind turbine power plant could be quickly realized although in small scale. ?It will become a pilot project that is expected to make investors interested in developing PLTB,? he said.
Based on the research conducted by the PLTB expert team from China, the regions of Timor Tengah Selatan and Timor Tengah Utara have a wind speed above 5 meter per second. ?According to a simulation that we?ve conducted so far by using the latest technology, we can generate electricity from wind turbine power plant even if the wind speed is only 4.5 meter per second,? he said.
He added that the team would make further research to find out the generation capacity using the PLTB in the regions ?East Nusa Tenggara is very potential for the development of PLTB,? he said.
In eastern Indonesia, PLN has managed to develop solar power plants in several locations--including those in Morotai island, Sebatik island, and Miangas island, and a number of mini-hydro power plants (PLTM) in Mamuju, Sulawesi Barat province, with a total capacity of 8.1 Megawatt (MW).
