PLN: PLTU Talaud to start operation in Q4 2017

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN hopes the first unit of the 2x3 MW PLTU Talaud coal-fired power plant project in Melonguane District, Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi Province, to start operation (COD) in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year.
PLN Business Director for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Region, Machnizon Masri said in a statement on Wednesday following a visit to the project, said that once completed, it would be the first small-scale coal-fired power plant operating in the country.
Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN?s northern part of Sulawesi regional office, Octavianus Padudung said construction progress of the project in the first quarter of this year has reached 85 percent. PLN has appointed PT Bousted Maxitern as EPC contractor of the power plant project. ?We?re optimistic the COD target in the fourth quarter of 2017 can be met,? he said.
The PLTU Talaud will supply electricity to households within the Karakelang system which covers Beo and Melonguane, the capital of Talaud Islands Regency, with 13,000 customers. Peak load at the Karakelang system currently stands at 3.5 W.
