State owned utility firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has since October powered the Bunyu Island area in East Kalimantan entirely by natural gas.
?We have used gas as the 100 percent power source in the island since October. The supply comes from PT Pertamina EP,? Vickner Sinaga, Director of Operation at PLN?s eastern Indonesia division, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The gas for the Island is actually a part of gas supply provided by Pertamina EP for Tarakan area. Of the total 5 mmscfd of gas supply to Tarakan, 0.5 mmscfd is directed to the Bunyu Island, Vickner said.
Vickner added that diesel was previously used to fire the power plant there. At present, PLN boasts over 2,200 customers on the Island.
