PLN pursues first CNG project

State-owned utility firm PT Perushaan Listrik Negara (PLN) plans to kick off a Compressed Natural Gas Project (CNG) in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, its first in the country, to fuel the power plant in the area.

?On January 31, I?m scheduled to sign a contract with a CNG marine consultant. Hopefully this project will be a success so that we could do gasification in Lombok where gas is actually absence. If successful, this is the first in the world,? M. Suryadi Mardjoeki, Head of Oil and Gas-based Fuels Division at PLN, told petromindo.com

Suryadi refused to elaborate on the name of the consultant. A source familiar with the matter said the consultant is RINA of Italy. ?RINA will be appointed and this will become PLN?s CNG project in Indonesia,? said the source.

RINA is one of the oldest classification societies and certification companies in the world. RINA?s services cover the environment, energy, transportation, logistics, safety, quality and social responsibility.
