State electricity company PT PLN is re-tendering a 84.4 megawatt hydro power plant at Krueng Peusangan, Takengon, Central Aceh regency.

The head of PLN's power generating and transmission project for North Sumatra and Aceh, Sulistijono, said the re-tender is pursued because the former main contractor, Kumagai of Japan, has withdrawn from the project due to security reasons.

"This re-tendering of the power plant will be pursued by a team, and I head that the team had been established by PLN," he said in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Sulistijono, the team will explain to the creditors, namely JBIC of Japan and the Asian Development Bank that will provide 70 percent of the financing, about the re-tendering.

The value of the project being re-tendered is estimated at Rp 1.5 trillion, and it will be supervised directly by the PLN headquarters in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the head of PLN's Aceh unit, Sofjan Ibrahimy, revealed that a total of Rp11.8 billion could not be collected from PLN customers in the first semester of this year due to security reasons. (*)
