State utility company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said it is ready to apply the government's B30 program on its diesel power plants as a move to reduce dependency on more expensive diesel fuel.
Under the program, PLN will blend 30 percent of each liter of diesel fuel with biofuel.
"PLN is actually ready to implement the B30 program," Acting President Director of PLN Djoko Abdumanan was quoted by Liputan6.com as saying.
He noted that the current 4,435 units of diesel power plants can actually blend as high as 60 percent of biofuel with diesel fuel.
The diesel power plants spread across Indonesia, producing 4,077 MW of electricity.
Previously, Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan said the ministry targets that within next two years, all diesel power plants of PLN can use two types of fuel, namely diesel fuel and renewable energy or biodiesel.
On June 13, 2019, the MEMR conducted a road test on the use of B30 biodiesel, in which 30 percent of one liter diesel fuel is blended with 30 percent biofuel. The road test is part of preparatory steps before the B30 program is applied nationwide. (*)
