State-owned electricity firm PT PLN received 93 proposals from local and foreign independent power producers (IPP) to build power plants with a total capacity of 20,000 MW, Sindo daily reported.
Most of the foreign investors submitting the proposals come from China, but local companies are also numerous, PLN?s President Director Eddie Widiono said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
?The proposals mostly express interests in building coal-fired power plants. If they are processed as from this year, the power plants are expected to start operating commercially in three or four years to come,? said Eddie, adding that PLN has set a target of increasing the country?s power generating capacity to 28,000 MW in the next ten years.
PLN has been holding tenders for the contracts to develop a number of power plants with a total capacity of 10,000 MW. Most of the contracts have been won by Chinese investors. (*)
