State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said it has received seven proposals from private companies to develop mine mouth coal-fired power plants in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
Procurement Direct of PLN Supangkat Iwan Santoso said on Monday that the company has received proposals for the development of four mine mouth power plants with combined capacity of 400 MW in Kalimantan, and three in Sumatra with combined capacity of around 300 MW.
But he said that the company could not yet ?process? the proposals as it has yet to obtain approval from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for its 2017-2026 electricity procurement business plan (or RUPTL).
Supangkat said that the 2017-2026 RUPTL is expected to be approved by the ministry in June of this year. One of the contents of the new RUPTL, which is revised annually, is that PLN will convert all planned coal-fired power plant projects in Kalimantan and Sumatra with combined capacity of 4,000 MW into mine mouth power plants. Total capacity planned in Sumatra is around 2,500 MW, and 1.500 MW in Kalimantan.
Supangkat said that PLN hopes to be able to sign power purchase agreements in the first semester of this year for the development of a combined 2,000 MW of mine mouth power plants.
