State-owned electricity company PLN will retender 10 coal-fired power plants to be built outside Java due to the lack of response from investors and continue the bidding process for 15 other similar projects, Kompas reported Friday.
The acting chairman for the coordination team for the government's fast-track power development program, Yogo Pratomo, said in
Jakarta Thursday that the 10 power projects would be retendered because each of them only received one bidder during the recent tender.
He said that PLN would continue bidding process only if each of the power plant projects received at least two bidders. "The tender will be reopened within two weeks from now," he said.
The 10 coal-fired power plants which would be retendered were part of the 25 power plants to be built outside Java as part of the government's plan to provide additional power supply of 10,000 megawatt in three years until the end of 2009.
The 10 coal-fired power projects which would be retendered include PLTU Meulaboh, PLTU Selat Panjang, PLTU Bengkalis, PLTU Bangka, PLTU Singkawang, PLTU Asam Asam, PLTU Barru, PLTU Maluku Utara, PLTU Bima and PLTU Kupang.
Meanwhile, the 15 coal-fired power projects which have met requirement to move to next bidding process include PLTU Sumatra Utara, PLTU Sumatera Barat, PLTU Lampung, PLTU Kepulauan Riau, PLTU Belitung, PLTU Kalimantan Barat, PLTU Kalimantan Tengah, PLTU Sulawesi Utara, PLTU Gorontalo, PLTU
Sulawesi Tengah, PLTU Nusa Tenggara Barat, PLTU Nusa Tenggara Timur, PLTU Maluku, PLTU Papua I and PLTU Papua II. (*)
