State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has decided to retender three power plant projects because the current tenders failed to attract enough bidders.

The three power plants are PLTU (coal fired) Bali Timur power plant (capacity 2x100 Megawatt), PLTU Papua (2x7 MW), PLTU Maluku (2x15 MW).

The current tender of PLTU Bali Timur worth US$200 million has only attracted two bidders, while the tender requirements set the minimum number of bidders at three.

?If the requirement regarding the number of bidders is not met, the price will not be competitive,? PLN?s Director of Planning and Technology Bambang Praptono said on Thursday.

PLN initially targeted the PLTU Bali Timur power plant start operating in 2013, but the operation schedule will be delayed as a result of the retendering.

The PLTU Papua and Maluku projects have also been retendered because the current tenders do not meet the requirement regarding the number of bidders, Bambang said without providing details.

The PLTU Bali Timur project is part of the IPP (Indonesian power producer) projects to be built under the Phase Two 10,000 MW fast-track program, while the PLTU Maluku and Papua are part of the EPC projects to be built under the Phase One 10,000 MW fast-track program (*)
