PLN?s 2014 coal consumption to rise by 15.83 percent

The coal consumption of state-owned electricity firm PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) in 2014 is expected to increase by 15.83 percent to 78.6 million tons from the estimated 66.3 million tons for this year, Koran Tepmo daily reported Friday quoting PLN Coal Division Head, Helmi Najamuddin.
Helmi said that as of the third quarter of this year, the company?s coal consumption has reached 45.2 million, some of which allocated for power plants being developed under the first phase of 10,000 MW fast-track program.
Helmy said that some of the coal-fired power plants under the 10,000 MW fast-track program will require coal supply of 26.2 million tons per year. ?If the entire power plants (under the firsth phase of the fast-track program) have been completed, the annual coal requirement will reach 39.4 million tons,? he said.
