PLN?s Anyer power plant project stalled on lack of gas supply

State electricity firm PLN said its plan to build 380-MW combined cycle power plant in Anyer, Banten province had been stalled due to unavailability of natural gas supply.
PLN?s director Ali Herman Ibrahim said that PLN thus far was not able to secure natural gas supply for the proposed plant. ?PLN had been in talks with CNOOC which has gas field nearby, but apparently, it doesn?t have sufficient gas reserves,? he said. He said the proposed power plant would require some 30MMCFD of gas.
PLN is teaming up with PT. Asahimas Chemical to build the power plant. Asahimas will consume some of the power to be generated from the plant while PLN will market the rest to its industrial customers.
A source said that PLN might use gas that would be piped from South Sumatra to West Java to fire the power plant. (alex)
