State-owned electricity company PLN consumed a total of 26.7 million tons of coal in the first half of this year, according to Helmi Najamudin, Head of the Coal Division at the company. He did not provide comparative figure for last year.
Helmi said that of this, PLN?s own consumption was only 20.2 million tons, while the remainder was used by its subsidiaries.
For the full-year, PLN?s coal consumption is expected to reach 52.3 million tons, of which 40 million tons for own use, and the remaining 12 million tons for subsidiaries.
Helmi said that most of the coal came from Kalimantan, while Sumatra only accounted for 7 million tons, the bulk of which supplied by state-controlled coal miner PT Bukit Asam.
