State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said Tuesday that its coal stocks remain normal despite shipment problem caused by high waves which hit the Indonesian sea during the past several weeks.

The company?s head for logistics department Puji Widodo told Petromindo.com that Citrawati ship which carried about 66,000 tons of coal for the company?s Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant in Central Java from coal mining company Berau Coal had arrived and could not get into the power plant's jetty due to high waves. Several other ships still faced difficulties to reach the company?s power plants due to the high waves.

But, he said that the delay in the coal shipment had not caused a problem, at least for now, because of the company?s coal stocks can still last for more than a month.

According to him, the existing stocks at the Suralaya coal fired power plant in Banten and at the Tanjung Jati B power plant are still enough for 30 days of operations while those at the Paiton power plant are still enough for 50 days.

Meanwhile, Sudirmanto, the general manager of the Suralaya plant said that the existing coal stocks of 1.2 million tons at the power plant are still enough to meet feed the plants least at for about 30 days. (godang)
