PLN?s H1 net profit down on fuel costs

State electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) announced on Friday first half 2010 net profit of Rp.6.146 trillion (US$=Rp.9,000), slightly lower than last year?s corresponding period net profit of Rp.6.265 trillion.
The Company?s electricity sales rose to Rp.49 trillion from Rp.43 trillion, while fuel expense rose to Rp.415 trillion from Rp.34.3 trillion.
PLN?s Director Nur Pamudji said earlier this month that the Company consumed 4.7 million kiloliters of expensive fuel oil in the first half of 2010, much higher than the budgeted consumption of 3.4 million kiloliters due to start-up delay of several coal-fired power plants. (alex)
