The National Police Headquarters has finally released Eddie Widiono, president director of the state electricity company PT PLN, because the police's investigation team failed to complete dossiers on his corruption case, Koran Tempo reported Thursday.

The police is allowed by law to detain someone for a maximum 120 days for the process to complete the dossier of his or her criminal case. Yet, until the end of Eddie's detention term, the police has yet to complete the dossier on his case.

?Learning from what has happened to other three suspects, the investigation team thinks it is better to release Eddie for justice,? said Insp. Gen. Paulus Purwoko, a spokesman for the Police Headquarter.

The daily said the decision to release Eddie Widiono ran counter with what Gen. Sutanto, head of the Indonesian Police, requested earlier. Sutanto asked on Wednesday evening his staff not to release Eddie because his dossier had been completed. ?We do not want corruption issues are not seriously dealt with,? he said.

Eddie was put in jail for allegedly being involved in "mark up" case related to the construction of a combined cycle power plant in Borang, South Sumatra, which inflicted losses of Rp 122 billion to the state.

Three other suspects in the case are PLN's director for primary energy power Ali Herman Ibrahim, the company's deputy director for primary energy power Agus Darnadi and PT Guna Cipta Mandiri president director Johanes Kennedy Aritonang, who works in partnership with PLN.

Because the police failed to complete the dossiers of the three suspects, the Attorney General took over the investigation tasks. However, the Attorney General finally decided to release the three suspects. (*)
