State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) signed on Thursday contract for the construction of the planned Takalar 2x100 MW coal-fired power plant in South Sulawesi, with China?s Gezhouba Group Co Ltd and Indonesia?s PT Hutama Karya as the contractors.

?We hope that after the signing of the contract, the construction of the power plant can be completed quickly by observing the quality,? PLN President Director Nur Pamudji said.

The Takalar coal-fired power plant is the first project under the second stage of the government-administered 10,000 MW power plant projects. Once up and running, the plant will produce 1,350 GWh of electricity per year.

Construction of the first unit is expected to be completed within 30 months, and the second unit in 33 months.
